History & nature at Glörje Spring

Glörje spring provides a great day out with exciting history.

The spring gets its water from an underground tributary and it is therefore said that it will never freeze or run dry. Glörje is also an ancient sacred spring that in the past was considered to have special healing powers. If objects were offered, preferably made of metal, you would gain health and happiness from the wondrous powers of the spring. The spring cult dates back to the Stone Age and sacred spring coins from the 14th century have been found in Glörje. Until the 20th century, Glörje spring was an important place for local young people who used to gather here on summer nights to dance, make offerings and drink from the healing water. The spring had the greatest attraction on Midsummer's Eve, when the water was considered particularly beneficial. Women would make pilgrimages to Glörje from nearby villages with buckets to fetch the magical water.

There is an information sign at the spring where you can read more about its fascinating history. Next to the spring there is also a barbecue area with bench and a scoop for those who would like to taste the water. The area also offers walking paths in beautiful nature.
