Draven

Bring your binoculars and discover the amazing bird life of Draven

Draven is one of Småland's most important and species-rich bird habitats. The lake has been restored to regain its character as a slow-moving lake with flooding in old cultural landscape. It is now an important breeding ground for a wide range of birds, mainly ducks and waders. Garganey, spotted crake, coot, water rail, black-headed gull, bittern, wigeon, curlew, western marsh harrier, whooper swan, crane and greylag goose all nest here. Many different ducks, geese and waders also roost here during migration. Peregrine falcons have been spotted at the lake and several other birds of prey hunt their food here. In winter you can see white-tailed eagles. There are bird watching towers north of Väcklinge on the west side and at Fridsnäs at the outlet in the southeast.

The plant cover is also varied and rich in species. In different parts of the lake bank, red rattle, crested wood fern, various species of sundews and bur-reed, as well as white water-crowfoot and greater spearwort, for example, grow. Marsh orchids have also been found in the reserve.

You can get around the reserve on foot on marked paths, but it is also possible to drive between different bird watching towers, viewpoints and hides.
