Värö Naturreservat

Canoe excursion to Värö Nature Reserve

Canoe in a lagoon, camp and discover wonderful nature

The island of Värö in Algustorpssjön is a popular excursion destination. You can get there by canoe that can be rented at Isaberg mountain resort. On Jansson's headland, located on the east side of the island, you will find a cosy camp site right by the water with a shelter, a fireplace and a toilet. Feel free to extend your adventure by staying overnight in the shelter.

An 800 metre long path runs around the whole island. The southern part of the island has a mighty pine forest with trees that are over 100 years old. A thousand red oaks were planted on the northern part of the island in the 1950s. The deer have eaten many of them, but some are still standing and in autumn their leaves turn bright red. Larch trees grow at the highest point of the island.

If you look down, there are many exciting flowers to find. Rare marsh gentian wildflowers grow on the shoreline. The deciduous forest hillside turns pink during flowering time, littered with twinflowers. Other plants that can be seen on Värö include Lady of the Snows, pinesap, creeping lady's-tresses and lots of ferns.

Between the island and the mainland, a small lagoon has formed, where the lake is usually calm. In spring and summer there are plenty of nesting waterfowl. Opposite Värö lies the coniferous Storö and the Isaberg nature reserve, whose steep slopes give a powerful impact. Don't forget to stop and enjoy the fantastic views.
